What is Sea Lettuce?
Sea Lettuce: Treasure of the South Atlantic.
Sea Lettuce (Ulva lactuca) is a green macroalgae with delicate flakes, grown in the rocky intertidal zones of pristine stretches of the Patagonian coast in the province of Chubut, Argentina. It combines the purity of the Patagonian sea with a unique gastronomic versatility.
At Algas de Origen, we craft it by hand:
- Manual, individual harvesting by artisanal fishermen divers, respecting the ecosystem.
- Hand-selection and rinsing with seawater.
- Natural drying at low temperatures, preserving nutrients intact.
- Cut into flakes of approximately 1 cm, ready to use in your everyday cooking.
Once rehydrated, its texture becomes delicate and tender. Its flavor is very mild, slightly salty and herbaceous, with fresh and lightly spicy notes, and an intense marine aroma that evokes the rocky beaches of Patagonia.
